Google Business Profile
7 Google Business Profile moves that bring in more local calls.
Your Google Business Profile is free, and for most local businesses it is the hardest-working thing you own online. Here is how to make it pull its weight.
When someone searches for a service near them, Google shows three local businesses above the regular results. That box, the map pack, is where the calls come from. Getting into it is mostly about giving Google a complete, active, trustworthy profile. These seven moves do most of the work.
1. Pick the most specific primary category
Your primary category is one of the strongest signals Google uses. Do not settle for something broad like "contractor" when "roofing contractor" fits. Be as specific as is accurate, then add the secondary categories that also apply.
2. Fill in every field, not just the easy ones
Hours, service area, services with descriptions, attributes, an opening date, a real business description. Each blank field is a small reason for Google to rank a more complete competitor ahead of you.
3. Add real photos, and keep adding them
Profiles with current photos get more clicks and more direction requests. Show your team, your work, your storefront, your trucks. Fresh photos every month also signal that the business is active and open.
4. Build a steady stream of reviews
Recent reviews matter more than old ones. Ask every satisfied customer, give them a direct link, and aim for a consistent trickle rather than one big burst. A profile that gains a few honest reviews a month outranks one that went quiet two years ago.
Reply to every review. It tells Google you are active and tells the next customer you actually care.
5. Use Google Posts
Posts let you share offers, updates, and events right on your profile. They keep the listing fresh and give searchers one more reason to choose you. A short post a week is plenty.
6. Answer questions before customers ask them
The Q&A section is public, and anyone can answer, including competitors. Seed it yourself with the questions you hear most, and keep an eye on it so wrong answers do not sit there unchallenged.
7. Match your details everywhere else
Your name, address, and phone on the profile should match your website and every directory exactly. Consistency builds the trust that lifts you in local rankings.
The short version
